This room was built in 1716 as a gift to Peter I from the King of Prussia Frederick William I. The King of Prussia wanted to celebrate peace between his state and Russia and to cement their alliance against Sweden by presenting such a magnificent gift. The panels of the Amber Room are made of several tons of amber. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, all gemstones were stolen and it was only in 2003 that the room was restored and opened to public. It took 25 years of hard work by Russian craftsmen to create the exact replica of the stolen room.
