The picturesque ensemble of the monastery itself comprises over 50 buildings, each a true gem of Russian architecture. You will learn about the founder of the Monastery – St. Sergious of Radonezh, about the history of Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, about the Russian Orthodox Church and about its existential challenges before, during and after the Communist era. Also, you will visit Chernigovsky Men’s Monastery founded in 1847, which has the one-of-its-kind underground, hand-dug monk prayer cells and very beautiful grounds .
